Botanical Life (Dr. Hema Sane)

It was 2002, Jogeshwari temple, ABC Pune. Along with my friend I was in the queue to pray the goddess with some unknown flowers in my hand. I asked my friend about the flowers, he was unaware about it too but he said, "it might be hybrid or processed with some artificial ways". After a little pause I heard a voice of lady, I looked back and she told everything about those flowers, I was just forgot to breath. She invited to us to visit her home, I took the address, and asked for the name n number, she said," I don't have telephone and my name is "HEMA". I thought she is a poor lady but with rich knowledge.

I was curious to meet her, so on very next day I reached the address given by her, I was just amazed coz I seen the place many times before and thought no one lives here.

I opened the broken gate, entered and I found myself in totally 
different world. World of plants, grass, trees and flowers, and was shocked to see the hut (wooden roofed).

When I entered, she was making tea. I looked around n saw books n album like things everywhere. She gave me a cup of tea with totally different n unforgettable taste.

while chatting I was looking for switch board to light the tube, she understood my intention n said, "I don't need electricity so I don't have any bulbs or thing that needs electricity, I am not against electricity - I do understand that electricity is essential for several things, especially in the work of science, but I feels that it is redundant in my daily life."

I was speechless on her such a intent thought n way of living in the era where everyone is focused on the "standards of living"

on 5th visit to her in 2003: I was more curious and thought there 
might be some things in the past that made her to live like this so 
I decided to ask her.

While chatting I asked her to tell about her past and she replied," 
dear!!! ask me about the PLANTS not about the PAST."

She is always busy with students (Indians n foreigners), curious kids like me and visitors who know or heard about her distinctive quality work.

Once I asked her, "why don't you work professionally apart from 
your job" and she replied, "then I will loose the innocence of helping to the students and to the nature."

One of the interesting thing about her is that she don't remember 
faces n names most of the times... in my 5 visits, I introduced 
myself thrice, she remembers everything after then.

I asked her, "what must I do so that you will remember me all the time." she replied, "just grow some rare plants on your head, I can remember plants n things attached with then and I can't remember names n faces....... that is my weakness.

She is one who dedicated her life for the "green gold" , a women 
who is always away from the expectations, temptation and 
attachment of material world designed by humans.

She is not poor, nor having lack of money, she was Dr. HEMA SANE worked in Dept. of Botany in University of Pune. A former head of the department of botany at the Abasaheb Garware College, pune. She is a Author and co-author of several botany books.

Dr. Hema sane has dedicated her life for the SCIENCE and the Botanical research, Botany is in her blood. She is the one who lives the natural life naturally.
